Tell us a bit about you and what you do.

We are New York-based identical twins, originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan. We moved to New York City in 2009 after studying international business at the University of Michigan to pursue modeling – we had modeled in our late teens out of Chicago and Miami. We always were drawn to creativity. Since childhood, we always had a passion for visual arts – painting, drawing, and sculpting. Makeup to us was a great outlet to capitalize on our creative talents. As we began to build up our brand as makeup artists, we went back to school in NYC to get a degree in entrepreneurial management and advanced business analysis to master the logistics of creating and managing our own creativity-related company. This led to the creation of The Parker Twins Makeup (our makeup/beauty directing business) and House of Life – our luxury custom terrarium creation company. Both have really started to take off and we are excited to watch our businesses grow! In addition to these endeavors, I (Austen) currently write as a beauty editor for World Bride Magazine and will soon be writing for True Luxury Life. Tyler is now also working with one of the highest rated PR firms in the country.

How long have you been a makeup artist and how did you get your start in the industry?

We have been doing makeup since we moved to New York City – almost 8 years now. We transitioned from modeling into makeup via a 1½-year rigorous apprenticeship under a world-renowned celebrity makeup artist. Our schooling in this regard was heavily focused on understanding facial anatomy, accentuating facial symmetry, and mastering counter aging visual techniques. Our longtime fascination with the scientific aspects of skin rejuvenation and cosmetic dermatology combine well with our makeup education, and have given us a unique edge within the industry.
