KLAIDAS VAITKUS
Klaidas Vaitkus is a Lithuanian born dreamer and pioneer with his sights set on bringing his signature style to the Fashion and Art world. We sat down with the man himself to find out more about the man behind the brand.
Tell us a bit about you.
I’m Lithuanian born, moved to London almost 12 years ago with the thought of getting a degree in fashion and building my life and career here. However, because things do not go as always planned I am still working on both. I’ve been to South Africa - with now my ex-boyfriend before returning to London 6 months later. In London, I got into college foundation course for a fast tracked into a bachelor’s degree, although I didn’t get a place in my first choice course; I was admitted into Fashion Design Technology with Surface Textiles focusing on print. I was surprised because print and colours has never been my point of focus, but during the 3 years I have discovered what professionals saw in me - the course grew on me, although the whole studying experience wasn’t what I expected it to be.

Why did you decide to become a fashion designer?
I didn’t choose it, it chose me. I remember i was attracted to all things creative as early as I was 8-9 years. I would work on the old sewing machine in our house to adjust my own clothes or make some things for barbies of the girls alongside my stepsister. At 13, I went to the school of domestic services where I studied sewing - it was a school similar to a college but not exactly that; I went to three of those back home. Between 14 and15, back in my home town; I designed and made few items for a local fashion brand. I hand made some accessories and went into the studio to choose fabrics for the garments I designed, it was really exciting. Whilst in school I got my designs together and went to the studio of a quite famous Lithuanian designer, I was 17 I think, left my designs there and kind of hoped to get some work experience as I was then in a capital city studying. I didn’t get in but got a great feedback towards my designs as she did encourage me to keep going. I did and then whilst studying in my last year right before the final exams I just got my stuff and came to London without finishing the school just like that. 4 years later I was back to school but now studying fashion at London College of Fashion.
